Contact Brian Mooney

Brian G. Mooney

     Mr. Mooney is licensed as an athlete agent under the laws of the State of Florida (License No. AG-0000385) as well as various other states and is a principal in StarTrust Management Inc. An NFLPA Certified Contract Advisor and a certified agent with the Major League Baseball Players Association, he obtained his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame and his law degree from the University of Florida. He is a partner in the Florida law firm of Almerico & Mooney where he practices in the areas of securities litigation, general civil litigation and estate planning. Mr. Mooney is a member of the boards of arbitration for the New York Stock Exchange, the NASD and the National Futures Association. He is a member of the Florida Bar, the American Trial Lawyers Association and the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers. He serves on the board of directors of Sachem, Inc., in Austin, Texas, and also serves on the boards of his church, his high school's foundation and other charitable organizations. He lives in Tampa, Florida with his wife Kathleen and their seven children.

Kendall A. Almerico

     Mr. Almerico is licensed as an athlete agent under the laws of the State of Florida (License No. AG-0000377) and is a principal in StarTrust Management, Inc. An NFLPA Certified Contract Advisor and a certified agent with the Major League Baseball Players Association, he obtained his undergraduate degree in broadcasting and mass communications as well as his law degree from the University of Florida. He is a partner in the Florida law firm of Almerico & Mooney where he practices in the areas of civil trial practice and general civil litigation. Mr. Almerico is a Board Certified Civil Trial Specialist, a distinction earned by only three percent of all attorneys in the state of Florida. Mr. Almerico received the highest ethical rating available from Martindale-Hubbell, a national attorney rating publication. Since 1992, he has hosted the legal affairs television program Legally Speaking. He is a member of the Florida Bar, the American Trial Lawyers Association and the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers. He lives in Tampa, Florida with his wife Tina and their two children.

Jim Macaluso

     Mr. Macaluso is a principal in StarTrust Management, Inc. He brings an extensive array of experience to StarTrust Management from his 23 years of coaching some of Florida's finest baseball players. Mr. Macaluso's teams have produced 23 professional baseball players, a United States Olympic baseball team member, and several high draft picks in the major league baseball amateur draft, many of whom still consult with "Coach Mac" on various professional baseball issues. An educator for the past three decades, Mr. Macaluso has a wealth of knowledge from dealing with both youthful and experienced athletes. He earned his Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree in Education from the University of Tampa. Because of his reputation for honesty and fair dealing with numerous major league baseball coaches and scouts, Mr. Macaluso has helped negotiate contracts for athletes throughout the past fifteen years.

Phil Alessi

     Mr. Alessi is a principal in StarTrust Management, Inc. A successful businessman and operator of the second largest retail bakery in the United States, Mr. Alessi has been one of the country's top boxing promoters since 1968. Mr. Alessi's reputation for honesty and professionalism brought him accolades and success in a sport not otherwise known for its integrity. As the head of the internationally recognized Alessi Promotions, he has promoted boxing matches in venues ranging from New Orleans to Chicago and from Seattle to London. Mr. Alessi's abundant skills as a negotiator are evident from the contracts he has negotiated for more than 150 national television programs with broadcast networks including NBC, CBS, and USA. Mr. Alessi is so well respected by the national television networks that boxing commentator Dr. Ferdie Pacheco called him, "one of the few promoters the networks can take at his word, they love to work with him." Angelo Dundee, trainer of Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard, said about Mr. Alessi, "Class is the only word that can describe your organization."

Contact Jerry Goetz

Jerry Goetz

     Mr. Goetz brings a unique perspective to the StarTrust Management team. Mr. Goetz is one of the few people in the country to have experienced the baseball draft as both a parent and an advisor. His son, Geoff, was the first round selection (sixth pick overall) of the New York Mets in 1997. Having gone through the draft as a parent gives Mr. Goetz additional insight into the issues a family faces with both the college scholarship process and the professional baseball draft.

     As an advisor, Mr. Goetz has successfully helped families negotiate contracts for first round draft picks and other high selections. He has also successfully negotiated endorsement contracts for professional ballplayers.

     Mr. Goetz is also a regular speaker at the Team One National Showcase held annually at various locales throughout the country. Mr. Goetz graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in Business and Marketing. His experience in senior management with IBM and MCI provides him with the solid business credentials necessary to advise an athlete and his family. Born in Shaker Heights, Ohio, Mr. Goetz played baseball for three years at the University of Notre Dame. He lives with his wife Lynda in Tampa, Florida, where he is actively involved in the community.

Ty Griffin

     Mr. Griffin brings a tremendous wealth of experience to the StarTrust team. A 9th round pick out of high school in the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft, Mr. Griffin turned down a professional offer and chose to go to Georgia Tech to pursue a college degree and to improve his draft status. He was an All-American at Georgia Tech and set numerous offensive records, some of which still stand today. After his junior year at Georgia Tech, he was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the first round of the Major League baseball Amateur Draft (the 9th pick overall). That same summer, he was a key member of the United States Olympic Baseball Team where he led the United States to a gold medal in Seoul, Korea. That gold medal was the first Olympic baseball gold medal ever won by the United States.

     Mr. Griffin spent 9 years in professional baseball before retiring in 1997. Upon completion of his professional baseball career, he went back to school and finished up his college education, receiving a bachelor's degree in finance. Mr. Griffin's business acumen, when coupled with his college and professional baseball experience, allow him to counsel and advise young baseball players from the perspective of one who has achieved great success in both the amateur and professional baseball worlds.

     Ty lives with his wife, Dallas, and their two children in Tampa, Florida.
